Throwback Tuesday 003

It’s Tuesday, let’s move back for a while. I am really missing my friends now. It has been more than two months that we don’t bond since the lock down. This was taken last March 3, 2020. The restaurant was newly-opened. This is their 2nd day. When I bumped into my friends, we always end up eating! So I told them, “Let’s check out this new place called “La Frio Retiro”. I didn’t ask the owner how they came up with that name. But, she explained that she loves the Beatles, hence a lot of Beatles stuff are all over the walls. And obviously, the reason for Beatles song playing non-stop. How cool is that?

Me & my daughter Z

My daughter know the Beatles because of me. When she was small, I let her listen to old songs like Beatles, Cascades, Carpenters, ABBA, etc. Surprisingly, she almost memorized the ABBA songs.

My One-Bumped Away Friends

I always teased them, we are the “one-bumped-away gang”. The town is small for us, ha ha ha! No week that we will not see each other. Anyway, this place is so cold, with full blast air conditioning. And we were early too, so no one is around. The menu is all-American. Typical hamburgers, fries, hot dog sandwiches. Aside from the cozy place, I love their root beer! After this pandemic, I will come back for that root beer. Promise!

Until next foodtrip!

Fireflies: 22Bs

If there will be a thing that will last forever, it would be the friendship with my high school friends. We met way back 1984 and I was a Sophomore transferee student back in my hometown, Lucban [Quezon]. My Day 1 to a new school became easier knowing I knew two elementary classmates of mine, Lyn and Elda. I have no school friends, so I need to jive in. It wasn’t hard though. From them, I’ve met Sheila, Beth and Loida.

We just clicked! We named our ‘group’ as “22Bs” [Tagalog version of Fireflies], for the particular reason that we love adventure. Like fireflies wandering around.

Our high school days was one of the best episodes in my life. We play Cluedo, Scrabble, Spirit of the Glass; sing our hearts out with cassette tape karaokes; standby at the cemetery, eating ice candy, eating pancit habhab with ‘bahaw’ [cold rice], and first time experiences of “lambanog” [distilled palm liquor from coconut sap]. We had shrieked for Menudo boy band, dance to Madonna tunes, watched betamax videos during vacant periods and read Mills and Boon pocketbooks. Name it, we did all the teenage stuffs. That’s typical when you’re in high school.

After college, we had our different schools, but during semestral breaks, we see to it that we bond together. Even we got our different directions after college, we still keep in touch. Five of us are married now. Lyn is the only single in the group. Beth haven’t had the chance to be a mom, though. I got 3 kids [2 boys, 1 girl], Elda got the same as mine, Sheila had 2 girls and Loida had 3 girls and 1 boy. It’s 2020! We are still young at heart. Well, at least we’re still not grandmas [for now].

I will always be grateful for these girls who always brighten up my world. We make sure that we bond together, at least once a month. Our kids are “bigger” now. No more strollers, feeding bottles and diapers. Just bottle of beers and red wines. [Hahaha].

See, aren’t we so cute from THEN and NOW photo?

35 years of friendship..and counting. Need to say more?
